Paying It Forward at Crimes Against Children Conference (CACC)

cacc

This was my second year attending the Crimes Against Children Conference (CACC) in Dallas.  CACC draws a crowd proficient in the art of finding the bad guys and protecting the defenseless, and I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with many of the attendees about their work. I met a lot of law enforcement, victim advocates, and others involved in this space all of whom help with every facet of investigation and recovery. These folks are legit.

This year I found the dedication of the people I met more personally meaningful. Their stories reminded me of a time when I personally witnessed threats of violence against me and my family. It was a frightening time.  Without the intervention of law enforcement and compassionate members of the legal system – like the ones I met at CACC — I firmly believe my story would have had a tragic ending.

It is rewarding to be able to pay it forward by helping law enforcement and victim groups use ShadowDragon tools to identify, track and potentially stop criminals before children are harmed.

One facet of the conference that was very gratifying for me and the rest of the team here at ShadowDragon was the comradery shared with a group of companies that participate at CACC and work together as partners with DeliverFund’ s International Human Trafficking Analysis Center (iHTAC). This year, we were spread across four booths – ShadowDragon, Marinus Analytics, Kaseware, and DeliverFund. The people that make up these companies are dedicated, kind, brilliant, and hysterical. It was wonderful to be there together as a part of iHTAC representing our own products/super-powers and getting to know each other. This sort of event is vital for building relationships that, in this arena, benefit the greater good.

All the people in law enforcement and victim advocacy that approached us were amazing. Their desire to do their best and have the best tools for their jobs was apparent.  Their questions focused on speeding their workflow, so they could be in the field saving lives, solving crimes, and caring for victims. I am proud to be a part of a company that helps them with this goal. SocialNet is the bomb – taking what would take days or weeks when done manually and reducing the time to minutes or hours is vitally important to helping solve crimes.

Being around all the detectives and investigators at CACC triggered my memory of all that happened to my family. I remember how it felt when we realized we were in danger and how incredibly thankful I was – and am – for good cops – people who take care of things and are respectful of the victims and the perpetrators. These cops want to do a good job and be in the field saving lives, solving crimes, and caring for victims. If you ever have a chance to join us at the CACC conference, please do and come see us!
